Effective international protection in Europe refers to the respect of refugees’ rights in Europe in accordance with the rules in force. In fact, the countries that have signed the Geneva Convention are obligated to protect refugees and asylum seekers while respecting the following principles and rights:
- non-refoulement principle,
- protection against persecution,
- right to access employment,
- right to access education,
- right to access healthcare,
- freedom of movement,
- freedom to choose residence.
